Dave Mullins

Dave Mullins

    Bassmaster Elite Angler

We first met Dave at the weigh-in for the Bassmaster Elite Series Tournament on the Delaware River. He walked us through the finer techniques for fishing Megabass lures, and we badgered him for never having been offshore. When we invited him to join the TackleDirect team on a tuna trip the next morning at 3:00 AM, we didn’t think he’d show up.

At 3:00 AM on the dot, Margate City NJ had a premier Triton 21 TrX parked at the docks and one Bassmaster Elite Series angler ready for some saltwater action. Mullins pulled in at least four tuna that trip (we lost count), including a big bluefin on light tackle. Suffice to say, we were in love.

Hailing from Mt. Carmel, TN, Mullins started competitively bass fishing at the age of 16, competing in derbies held at Douglas and Cherokee Lakes. He qualified for the Elite Series in 2014, has since finished in two top tens, and has been in the money eleven times. Mullins is currently sponsored by New Breed Archery (he loves to duck and deer fish), Triton Boats, R&S Baits, Mercury Marine, Typhoon, and TackleDirect.

    Doomsday Tackle

    Doomsday Tackle Roku Soft Bait

It’s not a fat heavy salted worm or a thin finesse worm, so it can be used in any finesse presentation. Great for use in the “Neko Rig.” Stick a nail weight in the nose and a wacky hook through the “O” of this bait and fish it like a shaky head. The six sided profile of this bait allows it to shake/shimmy, and this gives off lots of flash which causes many more bites.
